Our client is a global medical device company and a leader in new product development and medical education in orthopedics. This position is responsible for full life cycle development of medical devices, which includes initiation, design, development, execution, and product maintenance.

Main Objective:

The Service Sustaining Engineer will support products repair center activities throughout the entire product life cycle, and works on continuous improvement of repair quality, cost, and delivery to meet company's customer expectations and organization goals; improves processes and cost reduction activities; and supports processes for efficient transfer of product designs to repair operations. This is a fully on-site role in Santa Barbara, CA. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish key improvement initiatives, identify best practices by multifunctional project teams to bring new products to repair lines.
  • Design and develop tools and jigs for repair of products in service channels, and field and repair center.
  • Provide test engineering support through optimizing test procedures and test equipment.
  • Work with cross-functional product design teams to validate equipment and processes required for repairand complaint investigations during design for reparability, qualification,verificationand validation.
  • Collect and analyzes Root Cause Investigation data to help with Root Cause Analysis and CAPA.
  • Give design engineering team feedback on identifying design improvements.
  • Participate in Kaizen events targeting key improvements to drive productivity improvements.
  • Analyze repair data using statistical analysis tools such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) to identify and reverse any adverse trends.
  • Create and deliver SOPs and training needed for of all Synergy products repair lines personnel.
  • Provide technical expertise to repair center personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs and evaluations.
  • Utilizes technical drawings, specifications of electrical and mechanical systems and components to ensuresystems conform to standards

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, biomedical engineering, or related degree required.
  • 2 years of relevant work experience requiredas an engineer.
  • Experience in medical device industry or Capital Equipment Service preferred.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements / Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Experience with the proper use of common inspection tools, test equipment, and visual standards required.
  • Practical knowledge related to the products/components that the position will support, e.g.,electromechanical product components and assembly processes required
  • Must be able to read and understand component/product specifications.
  • Excellent listening skills, including the ability to identify and isolate customers’ concerns orobjections, in addition to excellent written and oral communicationis required.
  • Six Sigma certification preferred
  • Frequent use and general knowledge of industry practices, techniques, and standards, along withgeneral application of concepts and principles preferred.
  • Knowledge of FDA or ISO guidelines for the investigation and repair of medical devices preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Experience in continuous improvement culture, skill sets, and tools preferred
